Happy New Year! Here are some criminal justice ideas for 2017

Here are five things worth thinking about:

*Reform the money bail system so that people accused of crimes are jailed or released based on the risks they pose rather than their ability to pay.

*Make sense of the death penalty.  Is it a legitimate form of punishment or political prop?

*Do we build more prisons or rethink our sentencing schemes?

*Demilitarize the police.

*Understand the role of mental illness in the criminal justice system.
