Former Pennsylvania Corrections Secretary Jeffery Beard has been selected by California Gov. Jerry Brown to lead that state's prison system, reported the Harrisburg Patriot-News.
Beard was in charge of Pennsylvania's prison system under both Republican and Democratic governors, from 2001 to 2010.
Current Corrections Secretary John Wetzel, who has said Beard has been one of his best advisors on the job, tweeted "California got the right man to run their prison system."
According to the Sacramento Bee, Beard most recently "participated in the federal oversight of California's prisons."
