A congressional hearing designed to criticize sanctuary city policies unexpectedly shifted, as a planned attack by Republican lawmakers instead dissolved into a platform that amplified Democratic mayors’ arguments about immigration and urban safety, reported The Guardian.
“If you wanted to make us safe, pass gun reforms,” Boston mayor
Michelle Wu said. “Stop cutting Medicaid. Stop cutting cancer research. Stop
cutting funds for veterans. That is what will make our cities safe.”
