Texas Carried out 3rd Execution of 2011 with New Drug

The 13th Execution of 2011

On May 3, 2011, Cary Kerr was executed at the Texas State Penitentiary at Huntsville. He is the first Texas inmate to be executed using pentobarbital as part of the three drug lethal injection protocol.

Kerr was the third person executed in Texas this year and the 13th executed nationwide. He was pronounced dead at 6:19 p.m. according to a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

"To the state of Texas: I am an innocent man," were among Kerr's final words, according to Reuters. "Never trust a court-appointed attorney. I am ready, warden."

For his last meal, Kerr requested a long list of food, including lasagna, spaghetti, pizza, fried chicken, baked chicken, tacos, pork ribs, deep-fried mushrooms, a cheeseburger, french fries, quiche and ice cream, according the Department of Corrections.
